Job Description
The Department of Social Sciences (DSS) at BNBU invites applications for a full-time position to begin in September 2026 or February 2027. The Department comprises two undergraduate programmes: Globalisation and Development (GAD), established in 2019, and Digital Social Sciences (DGS), established in 2022. Both programmes are interdisciplinary and student-centred, combining foundational social science theory with applied research skills and experiential learning. We seek a scholar who can contribute to the core teaching and research needs of the Department, with the ability to teach across a range of courses in one or more of the following fields: 
• Computational Social Sciences – with expertise in areas such as digital research methods, social network analysis, computational text analysis, AI and society, data visualisation, or the ethical and governance implications of digital technologies. 
• Digital Governance and Policy Analysis – with expertise in how digital technologies, data, and computational methods are transforming public administration, governance, and policy-making. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach major courses within DGS and/or GAD curricula, supervise undergraduate research projects and theses (including Final Year Projects), and contribute to the Department's experiential learning activities (including field trips and study tours). There are opportunities to develop innovative pedagogy, engage in collaborative research with faculty and students, and contribute to the Department's growing transdisciplinary initiatives across the University. 

Research Expectations: The successful candidate is expected to be committed to excellence in both research and teaching. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrable ability to undertake independent research leading to impactful outcomes, such as publication in high-quality, internationally recognised, indexed journals and scholarly presses. The appointee will be supported to develop an active research agenda that informs their teaching and contributes to the Department's scholarly profile.

Job Requirement
All applicants should hold a PhD degree in a related field with a strong research profile appropriate to the rank. Other requirements include a firm commitment to teaching and tutoring students, as well as engaging in theory-driven qualitative or quantitative research. 

Rank-specific expectations: 
• Assistant Professor: Demonstrated potential for high-quality research output and teaching excellence 
• Associate Professor: Established track record of research publications and teaching experience commensurate with career stage 
• Professor: Distinguished record of research leadership and sustained contribution to the field.

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in digital social science or computational methods, or in digital governance and policy analysis. Benefits and Appointment Terms
Commencing salaries will be commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience. Fringe benefits include housing allowance, leave, social insurance and commercial insurance. Appointments to these positions will initially be made on a fixed-term contract with mutual agreement.
